vidyA (education)
Continuing on my quest of favorite subhAshitA, today, I am typing up these two shlOkA, both on education, vidyA. I like both of them, I love reading the first like a poem, fluent, words conjoined; it feels so nice.
"
मातेव रक्षति, पितॆव हिते निङते।
कान्तॆव चाभिरमयत्यपनीय खेदं ॥
कीर्तिं च दिक्षु वितनोति, तनॊति लक्षीं ।
किं किं साधयति, कल्पमतेव विद्या
mAteva rakShati, pitEva hite ni~gute
kAnteva chAbhramayati apanIya KedaM |
kErtiMcha dikShu vitanOti tanOti lakShmIM
kiM kiM na sAdhayati vidhyA ||
"
She protects like a mother, puts us in good deeds like a father
like a loving wife, she cares and soothes you
spreads your fame in all directions and brings wealth
like the plant which gives-all-you-wish-for (kalpa latha)
what not can knowledge (education) accomplish
"
विद्या ददाति विनयं, विनयाद्यति पत्रता।
पत्रत्वाद्प्नॊति धनधर्म्ं तता: सुखम् ॥
vidyA dadAti vinayaM, vinayAdyati patratA|
patratvAdpnOti dhanadharmM tataa: suKam ||
"
Knowledge (education) brings humility, with humility comes worthiness
worthiness brings about wealth and righteousness, also prosperity.
"
